OMNEX INDIA started in the year 1996 with India Headquarters in Chennai, known as the Detroit of the East. Over the last 26+ years, our team has grown to one of the largest offices in the company with more than 490 employees who work out our offices in Chennai, Pune, Bangalore and Gurgaon, Delhi.
We started our journey in India along with FORD starting their operations. The quality movement was in its infant stages, Automotive quality was very new, and we worked with the who's who of Automotive Supply chain. We started working with the erstwhile Mahindra-FORD (later christened as Ford India) till late 2022 when Ford exited India operations. It is remarkable to note that we have worked with many product launches since early 1997, working with the 3 major OEMs- Ford, TATA and Maruti. We had the opportunity to work with most of their supply bases - Tier 1 and Tier 2, for implementing QS 9000 and the Core Tools (blue book) that was very new to the Indian Automotive supplier.
We have come a long way since the beginning of our journey. We expanded our office reach to other parts of India while working with the TATA Motors (Erstwhile TELCO) for the launch of the Indica car, the 1st indigenously developed Indian car, which was a visionary project initiated by the legendary Chairman of the Tata Group, Mr. Ratan Tata. We continue to work with the Tata Group to this date in various capacities.
Subsequently, we had the privilege to work with almost every OEM that began operations in India, along with their respective supply chains, including SKODA, FIAT, GM, VOLVO, CATERPILLAR, NAVISTAR, DAIMLER, among others. Over the next decade, we were fortunate to provide our expertise and support to India's largest automotive groups and their pursuit of quality excellence, including TVS, RANE, ANAND, VARROC, and MINDA, to name a few. We have the unique credit of having worked with over a thousand automotive suppliers, and helping them in their transition from QS 9000 and ISO/TS 16949 to IATF 16949, and most recently, to the ISO 26262 Functional Safety standard.
With the growing nature of our training services, we introduced public training sessions in the mid-2000s and have since trained over 150,000 quality professionals. In addition, Omnex expanded its services to the non-automotive sector in the same period and has successfully collaborated on various prestigious projects with organizations such as Gas Authority of India, Diesel Locomotive Works, ACMA, and CIl.
From the Private sector, we worked with companies from Alternate Sources of Energy, Electric Vehicles, Medical, Semiconductor, and Telecom. To bridge the gap between practical knowledge for fresh Automotive/ Production/ Electrical Engineers, we started our Omnex Academy by late 2000.
The Academy currently has over 200 full time employees, focusing on Third Party Inspection (verifying over 150 Million characteristics a year) , Institutional Skill Development for Automotive and also has a Centre of E-Learning Excellence working with the Government to help improve Vocational Skills among the youth.
