The World’s First APQP and FMEA Software


Chad Kymal

In the 1980’s, Chad Kymal, Omnex Founder and CTO, along with Omnex developed and released the first version of a software that linked Process Flows, PFMEAs, Control Plans and Work Instructions in 1988. The linkages were pioneered by Omnex in a methodology called Process Review derived from the work they had been doing implementing Ford Q101 in Ford suppliers in the automotive industry.

Greg Gruska

Greg and Chad have been key drivers for defining software that links Design to process engineering and the manufacturing floor. Greg wrote one of the first books on the essential linkages between FMEAs and Control Plans, CP2, and then used this methodology to help Ford develop a ground breaking standard called DCP or Dimensional Control Plan. This was revolutionary work linking PFMEAs and Control Plans into one document focused on process risk and control. Greg has served extensively on the writing committees for the MSA, SPC, and FMEA manuals associated with Aerospace and Automotive APQP and PPAP standards.
