The future of transportation is electric and autonomous. In preparation, the automotive industry is in a transitional period from gasoline and diesel vehicles to Electric and Autonomous Vehicles (EV and AV). Certain economic and market factors have led to the transition, but it is clear that this change is here to stay.

Transitioning to become EV and AV ready
This shift from mechanical products with combustion engines to mechatronic and electronic products with electric power has significant implications to OEMs and Tier Ones. If you are not a part of the change, you may not have a future in the Automotive and Truck Industry. Organizations will have to shift their product development strategy from mechanical design to a focus on System, Hardware, and Software. This is, of course, a major shift for most companies where typically software development teams have operated outside the normal product development process.
A systems based architecture with requirements management and supply chain collaboration is a key to this new reality. New management systems such as Social Responsibility (ISO 26000), IT Security (ISO 27001), Occupational Health & Safety Solution (OHS), Environmental Management Solution (EMS), and Quality Management Solution (QMS) will have to be incorporated into the New Product Development Process. In most organizations, these will bring an unprecedented shift resulting in major organizational and process change.
Environmental and Social impact
Implementing a QMS alone is not enough for an EV-AV company, it has to be environment-friendly and a socially-conscious organization . The backstory of each company is important. This is the reason Tesla became so popular. Organizations in this space need to reinvent themselves with a social purpose.
